My Approach
Humans of any age require connection. Contrary to what our individualist society may tell us, relationships are central to our health and wellness. Forming healthy relationships early in life can be both informative and transformative to a young person’s development.
My role as the therapist is to honor you or your child as a unique human of different identities, and an expert of your life and experience. In providing a safe setting for therapy, my goals are to bring humanity, curiosity, integrity, and trauma-informed professional training to support you or your child.
Some models I draw from are: relational psychodynamic psychotherapy, trauma- informed treatment, child-centered play therapy, internal family systems, attachment theory, and systems, multicultural, queer, and decolonial theory.
Play therapy uses the natural language of children to process life experiences: play! This space is a consistent and safe therapeutic one that sets the makes room for early emotional and experiential processing, and sets the stage for growth, healing, and change over time. If you’d like to learn more about play therapy, this video can provide more context.
I believe continued learning is an important part of being an adult and a professional. In my ongoing work as a therapist, I’m committed a self-reflective search to uproot ideas of healing that are informed by systems of oppression.
I work with…
Children, 5-12
Play is the first language children learn to express themselves in. I use a child-centered approach to play therapy when working with kids who have experienced trauma, grief, or suffering.
Teens, 13-17
The adolescent years can be full of changes, complexities, self-discoveries and questions. I use psychodynamic psychotherapy, a type of talk therapy, informed by child-centered play therapy.
Parents & Caregivers
If your child or pre-teen (under 13) is working with me, we will be collaborating! We will schedule a collaborative session for every 4-6 sessions your child has. This will allow you to share your expertise as their parent/caregiver, and for me to offer my clinical training to you and your experience.
